About Me

Hi!  I'm Jayme.  Welcome to my blog.

I'm 34 years old, 5'7" and started a journey in August 2010 to lose half my body weight by going from 327 lbs to 160 lbs (but I'll be satisfied at 175 lbs, if that's where my body is happiest).  I've blogged more about my history here if you want to give it a read.

I am following a pretty tried-and-true method of eat less and move more, so counting calories, cutting out processed foods, eating more fruit and veg, and exercising 3-5 times a week is my path.  No pills.  No surgery.  Just hard work dealing with both the physical and emotional stuff that comes with this weight.  I am setting incremental (and more achievable) goals over the course of the months it will take me to get to the end result.  I talk about those goals in my blog posts and on my goals page.

I weigh-in weekly (on Sundays) and post my progress each week as a form of accountability and to get support and encouragement from friends and readers who follow my journey here.  If I miss a week, it's only because I haven't been able to be at my computer or scale (i.e. out of town or super-busy).  I try to measure myself every 3 months or so, in order to mark those changes as well.

As for my background, I am originally from the southern part of the U.S. and probably 90% of my family members are overweight or have struggled with it.  So is it genetic or cultural?  Who knows?  What I do know is that I have had issues with it all my life, but at the beginning of this journey recorded here, I was the heaviest I had ever been.

I currently live in Northern Ireland with my partner in life and now also in weight loss, Jim. I am working on my Ph.D in Theology, working on the intersection between the belief and ethical practice of hospitality for peace and social justice purposes, which should be complete in September 2011. I've got a year to finish my dissertation, lose a significant amount of weight (I don't expect to have met goal by then though) and get ready for a new phase of life.

Let the challenge begin!
